The vision for Skylos Sports Medicine was developed in 2015 by husband and wife Drs. Peter and Faith Lotsikas and is the realization of their united dream of providing personalized orthopedic and rehabilitation therapy for the canine companion. Our mission is to restore and maintain the basic canine freedom to feel good and run for the fun of it. To uphold our vision, we have endeavored to create the best possible environment for those who work here and those who visit us, human and canine alike.

Our hospital provides a unique orthopedic and rehabilitation team focused on treating and preventing injury, aiding recovery, and enhancing performance. Helping dogs live well is what drives us.

Meet Our Providers

Dr. Faith Lotsikas

Dr. Faith Lotsikas is passionate about providing rehabilitation therapy to improve quality of life for dogs of all ages and athletic abilities. She enjoys working with senior patients to improve comfort, mobility, and overall wellness. For pre- and post-surgical patients, she is dedicated to minimizing recovery times and maximizing outcomes for return to normal life. As an avid follower of canine sports, Dr. Lotsikas understands the unique physical and mental requirements of working and sporting dogs, and creates specific fitness and return-to-sport plans tailored to each individual human-canine team. Dr. Lotsikas prides herself on great instincts, sensitive hands, and open, collaborative communications with each patient guardian. Read more

Dr. Peter Lotsikas

Dr. Peter Lotsikas is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Lotsikas graduated with a BS degree in Biology from Virginia Tech and a DVM degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. He then completed a general small animal internship at Kansas State University, followed by a surgical internship at the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center. He received his formal surgical residency training at Iowa State University. Dr. Lotsikas returned to his home state of Maryland in 2007. Read more

Dr. David Hummel

Dr. David Hummel is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He received a BS in Biology from Virginia Tech, and a DVM degree from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Hummel completed a rotating internship at Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey, as well as a surgical residency at the University of Illinois. Following his residency, Dr. Hummel returned to the East Coast, where he worked as a staff surgeon at the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center in Richmond, Virginia before joining Skylos Sports Medicine. Dr. Jess Leasure

Dr. Jess Leasure graduated with a BA degree in biology from Mt. Holyoke College and a BVMS degree from the University of Glasgow’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, Dr. Leasure completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; a surgical internship at WestVet Animal Emergency and Specialty Center in Boise, Idaho; and an internship in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine at the Veterinary Orthopedic and Sport Medicine Group (VOSM) in Annapolis Junction, Maryland. She then went on to complete her surgical residency at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Maitland, Florida. Read more

Dr. Owen Fink

Dr. Owen Fink is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He received a BS in Physics from Brown University and a DVM degree from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Fink completed a small animal rotating internship at the University of Pennsylvania, then worked as an emergency veterinarian before completing his small animal surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, Dr. Fink was a staff surgeon for the Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners Network until joining the Skylos team. Read more

Dr. Sean Kennedy

Dr. Sean Kennedy is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Animal Science from the University of New Hampshire, and graduated from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. While at Tufts, he was inducted into the Phi Zeta National Honor Society. Following graduation, Dr. Kennedy completed an internship at Angell Memorial Hospital in Boston and followed this with his formal surgical training at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon completion of his surgical residency, Dr. Kennedy practiced in Towson for 13 years as a staff surgeon at Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists prior to moving to New England to be close to family. Dr. Kennedy served as Chief of Surgery at Southern New Hampshire Veterinary Referral Hospital for 3 years. When Dr. Kennedy decided to locate back to his ‘second home’ here in Maryland and pursue his passion for orthopedic surgery, he joined the Skylos Sports Medicine team. Drew Fisher, CCRA

Drew is a certified veterinary Rehabilitation Therapist Technician with extensive experience working with a diverse range of patients. He has a particularly strong background in canine aquatic therapy. Drew’s lifelong passion for animals has shaped his career, beginning with his involvement in Search and Rescue classes during his teenage years. Additionally, he brings a unique perspective from his training in human medical administration from the University of Maryland. Currently, Drew is advancing his career by pursuing the latest continuing education courses and certifications for Veterinary Rehabilitation while continuing his role as a credentialed rehabilitation technician at Skylos Sports Medicine.

Drew is dedicated to all facets of canine rehabilitation, enjoying his work with senior dogs, post-operative patients, and canine athletes recovering from injuries. His expertise in aquatic therapy, particularly using a water treadmill, has been highly beneficial for his patients, often requiring creativity and adaptability for their success. Drew believes in the importance of educating pet owners, ensuring they understand the rehabilitation process and are equipped with the tools to support their pets at home. He collaborates closely with Skylos rehabilitation doctors and surgeons to develop comprehensive treatment plans that extend to the home environment, ensuring the best possible outcomes.

In addition to his educational efforts, Drew’s manual therapy skills are evident in his ability to help dogs feel better. He is also experienced in cart assembly and fittings, especially for dogs that have lost mobility due to disease or injury, drawing from his personal experience with his own neurologically affected dogs, Hank and Stewie.

Drew lives in Baltimore, MD, with his beloved pets: A French Bulldog, Stewie; a Boxer/Pointer mix, Princess; and his Brussels Griffon, Floyd. His pride in his furry family is apparent in any conversation about them. Beyond his professional and personal dedication to animals, Drew enjoys traveling the world, practicing yoga, and visiting wineries.

Susanne Parks, CCRA

Susanne has been around and enjoyed having dogs most of her life. Susanne has worked in several dog-related fields, such as veterinary hospitals, pet sitting, and doggie daycare. She has also enjoyed competing with her own dogs in canine sports including flyball, frisbee, and rally-o, with some training in agility and nosework.

Susanne has been an integral team member with Skylos Sport Medicine since we opened in 2015. She began with Skylos in our surgical department. Susanne has always had an interest in canine rehabilitation and injury prevention through fitness. In 2018 she began assisting in our rehab department and later became certified through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute (CRI) in 2021.

Susanne is gifted in animal behavior and training, which helps her put our patients at ease as well as helps teach them how to properly do their therapeutic exercise routines.
